SEND Support at Kepier – Parent Summary
At Kepier, we believe every child should feel safe, included and supported to achieve their very best. We welcome learners with a wide range of special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND) and work closely with families to make sure support is right for each individual.
How we identify needs
Teachers and parents can raise concerns at any time.
We use clear processes and Sunderland LA guidance to decide if a pupil needs SEND support.
How we support learners
In class: Teachers use strategies that help all children and young/people. Our “Ordinarily Available Offer” is available on the website.
Extra help: Small-group or 1:1 support, specialist HLTAs for English, Maths, and Wellbeing where it is appropriate.
Specialist services: We work with CAMHS, Speech & Language, Educational Psychologists, Autism Outreach and others.
Transitions: Extra support when moving from primary to secondary including bespoke 1:1 visits where appropriate.

12 teachers training as Autism Champions, delivering training across school.
Bespoke Mental Health and Wellbeing team to support social, emotional and mental health needs.
Social Skills programme in Year 7 to develop wider personal skills.
Specialist HLTA who will support throughout transition and into Year 7.
How we involve parents and carers
Regular reviews of support plans.
Parent forums and questionnaires to gather feedback.
Open communication – parents can contact the SENCO or their child’s HLTA directly.
