What is Careers Education, Advice and Guidance (CEIAG)?

Careers Education, Information, Advice and Guidance programmes make a major contribution in preparing young people for opportunities, responsibilities and experience of life. They help young people make decisions and manage transitions as learners and workers. It is vital that all 11-16 year olds have the knowledge and skills they need to make informed choices. We strive at all times to conform to the current “best practices” in Careers Education, Information, Advice and Guidance laid down by the government.

Careers Education, information and Guidance (CEIAG) education here at Kepier helps young people develop the knowledge and skills they need to make successful choices, manage transition in learning and move into work. It is statutory from year 8 but we begin from year 7, in partnership with outside agencies (colleges, 6th forms, apprenticeship providers and universities) to raise aspirations, challenge stereotypes and encourage all pupils to consider a wide range of careers.

Learners at Kepier are entitled to receive a full programme of careers education which is delivered through lessons, activities and events and guest speakers. In addition, Kepier commission the services of CareerWave and work closely with Connexions so every learner has access to a fully qualified Personal Advisor for impartial advice and guidance regarding their future choices and decisions.

All learners at Kepier will develop the following skills:

  • Understand yourself, your interests, likes and dislikes, what you are good at and this affects the choices you make.
  • Find out about different courses, what qualifications you might need and what opportunities there might be.
  • Develop the skills you may need for working life
  • Make realistic, but ambitious choice about courses and jobs.
  • Be able to make effective applications for jobs, training and further and higher education.
  • Develop your interview skills
  • Improve your confidence.

Our careers information and plan will be reviewed on an annual basis; the next review date is September 2023.
