Introduction

At this stage in your education, you are able to have some choice in the subjects you will study in Years 10 and 11. You should read through the options information carefully, with your parents/carers, and discuss with them the subjects you would like to choose; please bear in mind your future education and career intentions.

Don’t make up your mind until you have had the opportunity to talk to your teachers about your progress, and have obtained as much subject and careers information as possible.

Please read all of the information on the webpage carefully and if you or your parents/carers require further information, contact either: the relevant subject leader; Mr Tait (Year Manager) or Mr Langley (Vice Principal).

Careers information, advice and guidance is available from Mr Warkman (Vice Principal) and your Curriculum for Life (CFL) subject teachers.

The English Baccalaureate (EBacc)

At Kepier, all learners who have shown the potential to succeed in GCSE French must continue to study the subject until the end of Y11.  These learners follow our EBacc pathway.  We strongly believe that the benefits of studying French go far beyond the learners achieving a highly regarded GCSE.  The reading, writing, speaking and listening skills that learners develop whilst studying GCSE French can be very usefully applied to all other subjects, and can also be extremely valuable during further study and a range of career pathways.

The Curriculum in Years 10 & 11

Core Subjects

You have to study English Language, English Literature, Maths, Statistics, Science, French, PE, Curriculum for Life and either History or Geography.

Option Subjects

On the online options form, you will make choices from 3 sections:

  • In section 1 choose French.
  • In section 2 choose choose either Geography or History.
  • In section 3 choose 1 main subject and 2 reserves. You will study 1 of
    these.

MAKE SURE THAT THE MAIN SUBJECTS (BLUE) AND RESERVES (ORANGE) YOU HAVE CHOSEN ARE IN PRIORITY ORDER.

You must choose subjects that you are willing and prepared to study

UNFORTUNATELY, WE CAN’T GUARANTEE THAT YOUR CHOICES WILL RUN; CERTAIN SUBJECTS WILL NOT RUN IF TOO FEW LEARNERS OPT FOR THEM.

Remember that your friends may choose the same option as you, but you may be in a different group. If you make a mistake and don’t like the option, it is very difficult to change.
